People's Roles in an Earthquake

We are learning that people have different roles in an earthquake and some careers require a lot of knowledge about earthquakes.

We will know that we understand this when we:

- can explain the role of the media, Civil Defense, Army, Search and Rescue, Fire Fighters, Police, Geologists, construction workers and local council in the recent Christchurch earthquake

- can name three voluntary organisations that worked after the Christchurch earthquake

- can explain the role of politicians, including the Prime Minister and Mayor in the Christchurch quake

- list the good and bad aspects of the media coverage of the quake. Make a decision about whether you think the media coverage of the Chrischurch quake was good or bad. Write a persuasive argument about your choice. Use the resources in the room to remind you of what makes a good persuasive argument.

Read the newspaper clippings, look at the YouTube clips below and/ or use Google to find information to help you find the information you need to meet the above criteria.

Draft this in your writing. Publish on the wiki, word process it or by hand.
